The Conservatory is open 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily, including weekends and most holidays (closed Dec. 25). There are extended hours for some programs; please check the Programs and Events page for details. The Conservatory is located at 100 Maryland Ave. SW, Washington, DC 20001.

  • Independence Day: For the Fourth of July holidays 2024, visitors should access the Conservatory and gated outdoor gardens via Independence Ave SW. The Garden is open regular hours all weekend, including July 4.

The gated outdoor gardens ("National Garden") are open 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily, including weekends and most holidays (closed Dec. 25). They are adjacent to the Conservatory, with entrances from Independence Avenue, from Maryland Avenue (at 3rd Street) and from the Conservatory Terrace. These outdoor gardens have extended evening hours from April 1 - September 15 each year, staying open until 7:00 p.m.

Bartholdi Fountain and Gardens are open from dawn to dusk, daily, including weekends and holidays. They are located across Independence Avenue from the Conservatory, with access from any of the three bordering streets: Independence Avenue, Washington Avenue, or First Street SW.

Summer Evening Hours

The Garden will be open until 8 p.m. on the third Thursdays in June, July, and August 2024. The Garden will stay open until 8 p.m. on June 20, July 18, and August 15, 2024, for visitors to enjoy the golden hour and sunset amidst summer flowers and the USBG plant collection from around the world. Public Transportation

The easiest way to reach the Garden by Metrorail is by taking either the Orange, Blue, or Silver line to the Federal Center SW station. Exit the station, walk north (left) along Third Street SW for two blocks, cross Independence Avenue, and continue one more block to Maryland Avenue. Look toward the Capitol and you will see the glass dome of the Conservatory. The Conservatory entrance is on Maryland Avenue.

The National Mall route of the DC Circulator bus stops on 3rd St SW by the Capitol Reflecting Pool, in front of the Conservatory.

Parking

Metered street parking spaces are available within a few blocks of the U.S. Botanic Garden. The Garden does not have its own parking lot or parking spaces.

Tour Buses

There is no tour bus parking at the U.S. Botanic Garden. There is a tour bus route from the Capitol to Parking Lot B at Union Station. Tour bus drivers should use this route between the tour drop-off/pick-up point on First Street SW and the bus parking lot.
