Helleborus x hybridus are great plants for a shady spot in the garden. They have dark evergreen foliage and lovely flowers that show up in late winter through early spring and range from yellow, pink and red to blackish-purple. Often sold by color versus a cultivar name, these plants tolerate summer heat and humidity, but should be protected from winter winds. Cut back flower stems after blooms fade to promote new foliage growth and cut back any scorched or damaged leaves in the spring. Once established, they form clumps and have few insect or disease issues.
