Maui mugwort (known in Hawaii as `Ahinahina or hinahina), is a Hawaiian endemic perennial subshrub grows only along cliff faces and in subalpine shrubland. It is strongly aromatic and resembles a garden favorite, Artemisia 'Powis Castle'. Like many Hawaiian endemic plant species, it faces peril due to both land development and nonnative plant and animal species. Hawaiians historically planted this Artemisia with native Acacia to discourage insects from infesting the seed pods.
