Ecke white poinsettia, a seedling, was first distributed in 1945. Before 1960, this was the only variety that retained its leaves and bracts not only in the greenhouse, but in the less favorable conditions of the home as well. This led people to believe that white poinsettias were longer lasting than red or pink cultivars, but actually, leaf retention is an inherited characteristic unrelated to bract color.
