Closure notice

NOTICE: The Conservatory will close at 2 pm for an official government function on Tuesday, May 5. The Conservatory and the National Garden will be closed on Wednesday, May 6, for an official government function, reopening at 10 am on Thursday, May 7.

Paphiopedilums are wonderful orchids for the home, requiring conditions normal in most residences. Indirect sun from an east, west or shaded southern window, temperatures between 55 at night and 85 during day is needed along with about 60 percent humidity. In the home humidity can be provided by a spray bottle or from placing the orchid on a tray of pebbles in water. Repotting maybe needed ever couple of years as most orchid potting mixtures break down rapidly. In addition to adequate light, a diluted balanced fertilizer application is requried for health and flowering.
